TIMEOUT: Hire a boat for a super-cute picnic cruise in Sydney

Summer is here, with sunny skies finally making an appearance after endless weeks of rain. And just in time for this seasonal windfall, Sydney is scoring the perfect vehicle for your next catch-up in the sun. GoBoat has been inviting punters in Canberra, Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Brisbane to take a voyage on its eco-minded, dog-friendly picnic boats since 2014. Finally, it’s Sydney’s turn, and quite frankly, it’s high tide… we mean, time.

From December 15, you can catch one of these cute-as-a-button boats from Cabarita Point in Sydney's west to enjoy a gentle jaunt up the Parramatta River. These German-made vessels are not built for speed, but rather to make taking to the water a doddle even for the most ardent landlubber, with safety briefings and equipment included as standard on every booking. And since these boats are constructed of reclaimed timber and recycled PET drinks bottles, and are powered by electric, zero-emission engines, you can enjoy your day out with a clear conscience.

Each boat can hold up to eight people, making boat hire an extremely affordable $17 per head – $129 in total for an hour cruise, although you can book up to five hours if you’re looking for a more leisurely experience. Simply bring along a picnic basket and fully stocked chilly bin, and you’re winning the summer like a boss.

Make your booking via the GoBoat website.
