"You Can Hire These Electric Picnic GoBoats And Cruise Up The Brisbane River"

GoBoat is inviting you to be your own captain with their electric picnic boats, which you can sail the Brisbane River in. You might recognise these funky little boats from the Gold Coast, where they are available to hire and cruise around the Hope Island canals—and now they're finally in Brisbane.

Originally established in Denmark in 2014 on the Copenhagen Harbour, the Gold Coast was GoBoat’s first Queensland location last year, after a successful launch in Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin and Melbourne’s Yarra River, where more than 100,000 people have jumped aboard for a unique way to explore these cities.

Made from recycled PET bottles, these eco-friendly boats run on electric engines which are silent and emit no pollution. With no license or experience required to drive, each GoBoat fits eight people around a large picnic table and comes complete with a sunshade bimini for extra comfort. Just BYO picnic, tipple of choice and set sail. You can even take your dog with you, how good is that?

The boats can set sail from two locations—the official GoBoat pontoon at the Breakfast Creek Lifestyle Precinct, where you can also pick up pastries and picnic goodies from MICA, or their original location at Dockside Marina Kangaroo Point. You can hire them for one, two or three hours depending on how far up the river you want to go. If you're sailing from Breakfast Creek, one hour will get you to the Powerhouse, two will get you floating up under the Story Bridge and three will score you South Bank views. And of course, you'll get a crash course in how to drive the boats, which only go about 7kms hour for chilled cruising.

If you've already got your captain's hat on in readiness (hot tip, you can score a free captain's hat worth $20 with any booking right now until 3 October if you can show that you've been double vaxxed), you can book yourself an hour or two on the water already.
