The Ultimate Way to See the Balloon Spectacular
GoBoat’s Balloon Spectacular experience has quickly become a must-do Canberra tradition. In 2026, we’re thrilled to bring it back with even more magic, spectacular views, and memorable moments.
Your morning begins at 6:00am as you board your own private electric picnic boat from Kingston Foreshore. With space for up to eight guests, it’s the perfect morning adventure for friends, family or a memorable date with Canberra’s most iconic event.
As first light hits Lake Burley Griffin, you’ll glide across the water while colourful hot air balloons rise gently into the sky. With GoBoat’s canopies removed especially for this event, you’ll enjoy unobstructed 360º views and front-row access to one of Australia’s most photogenic spectacles.
A Peaceful, Eco-Friendly Sunrise Cruise
Each boat is Australian-built, eco-friendly and incredibly easy to operate with no boat licence required, so you can cruise with peace-of-mind. The quiet electric motor means no fumes and no engine noise, allowing you to soak up the calm morning air.
You’ll have the boat for three hours, so you’re free to cruise, relax, and snap sunrise photos until your return time.
Your Ticket Includes the Whole Boat
Your Balloon Spectacular booking includes one entire private GoBoat, not a per-person ticket. Pick your captain, gather up to seven friends (8 people max per GoBoat), and enjoy the morning your way.
Important Information for This Special Event
Because this is one of Canberra’s most popular annual events, a few additional conditions apply:
- This is a special event and is ticketed separately from standard GoBoat bookings, so vouchers, gift cards and discounts cannot be applied.
- Tickets are processed by the event organisers and shared with GoBoat. At least one week before your sailing date, you’ll receive a confirmation email and waiver link for all guests.
- Due to high demand, a dedicated cancellation policy applies (see below).
- Weather can affect the Balloon Spectacular. Even if balloons do not take off, you will still have the option to cruise if conditions are safe, or receive a credit.
Cancellation Policy
To ensure fairness and maximise availability for waitlisted guests, the 2026 event follows a specific cancellation structure:
- 14+ days before: Full refund (less booking/transaction fees).
- 14–7 days before: $319 GoBoat Canberra credit (valid 12 months).
- 7 days–48 hours before: $229 GoBoat Canberra credit.
- Under 48 hours: No refund or credit.
- All cancellations must be emailed to canberra@goboat.com.au.
Please note: GoBoat does not control whether balloons lift off on the day. If the weather is safe and you choose not to board, the maximum rebooking credit available is $229.
